I just added a mirrored stripe set on my Windows 2000 server (Raid 5+0). It
is a device that allows two RAID 5 setups and I have each setup with 5 of
the 500GB SATAII drives. Total for each RAID 5 array is 2TB usable. I set
Windows 2000 Disk Manager to mirror those arrays. Yes, I know it is
overkill but I have my reasons.
Disk Manager has been showing the mirror "Resyncing" for over 12 hours and I
think at this rate it looks like it has over 24 more hours left. Since
these drives are all blank and the setup is new I thought the process would
be very quick on the initial setup, but that does not seem to be the case.
I don't think it is drive performance because I have just done some speed
testing and even with the resyncing going on I am getting some really
smoking numbers compared to my old two drive mirroring setup.
Why is the resyncing on this blank array taking so long?
