OK first of all let me apologize because I know this isn't the correct NG or
even the correct forum to ask this question. However knowing that there are
still some old IT dinosauers still out there I'm hoping I canfind my answer
here.
I have this old HP LaserJet 5si MX printer that I had setup about 8 years
ago on this network. Worked fine but after a few months we purchased a new
laserjet printer and the 5si sort of went unused and untouched. Anyways our
new printer (not new anymore) needed to be serviced so we wanted to use the
5si temporarily. Well it didn't work. I remember a few years ago we stopped
using it because it would always get a paper jam. So now all of a sudden it
wouldn't even print. I could send a print job and it would always error out.
So I thought I'd print a test apge and checkoutthe configuration. Upon
review I noticed that the gateway was incorrect. Now here is the "excuse me
but I m totally having a gigantic brain fart" part I need a hints or
reminders.
The LCD on the 5si is on the blink so it is very hard to read. I can't
recall how I set it up. I either inputted the network settings manualy using
the printers menu functions or I think I used HP Jet Admin to set it up. Now
I can't recall but I believe in the older days Jet Admin would do a
discovery using MAC hardware addresses? I downloaded the latest version of
HP Jet Admin 10.0 and cannot run a discovery searching for hardware
addresses. It appears it will only search for IP ranges. So here is my
problem. I did a cold reset on the 5si so all the network configuration is
cleared. So I'm lost as to how to get it back on my network. Does anybody
remember how the older HP LAserJets with Jet Direct cards are seup on the
network? Thanks and please excuse my ignorance or lack of memory.

Hello AllenM,

I think the default settings is DHCP for the printer and so you can find
it in DHCP leases overview and then access it via web interface with the
ip address released from the DHCP server.
