Hello,

We have lost the array (long story) of data of our file server (2k3sp2),
which contains also AD logs. I have restored all the data but active
directory still does not work... I think I should restart in DS repair mode
to fix it but what should I do first?

Should I redefine the path of the logs(ntdsutil set path logs ...) or
something else? Should I restore the AD backup I have done 12 hours ago? (I
have 3 other DC's, but this one hold the master roles).

Thanks for your help,

JF

Re: Lost log drive

Hello JF,

You say AD does not work, be more specific about errors from event viewer
or anything else. Here are some articles about the database and the logs
and locations etc. but not sure if they are the right ones to help. As said
before give some more info.

In the left pane expand all items:

Re: Lost log drive

Hello,

I was unable to replicate this server from/to other DC's, unable to open any
of the AD mmc snapins (users & computers, sites & services, ...), and a lot
of different event viewer errors : 1173,1699,1977,4001,7,40960. What I did
was to restart in AD repair mode and restore the last AD backup with
ntbackup. It works fine now.

Thanks,

JF
