Hello all,
Setting up a new Windows 2008 network. I have 2 domain controllers. In the
past with Windows 2003, users have always been able to logon to my rdp
servers as long as 1 of the domain controllers is up. In the users info,
terminal services profile tab, profile path I've always had
%logonserver%\sysvol\somecompany\someuser
It's seems that Windows 2008 will not use the %logonserver%.
Is that gone from 08? Is there a different system variable I should use
instead?
Users can logon fine if I specify the server name. But if that is specific,
and that server goes down, loging on ends.
Anyone know how I can get around this?

Thanks
John

Hello John,

If you type "set" in a command prompt, you can see that LOGONSERVER is used.
Additional use DFS shared folders and not the SYSVOL for replication, it
works but better use SYSVOL only for real AD replication.

Thanks for the reply Meinolf. :)
Ya, I can see that LOGONSERVER still exist. But it appearantly can not be
used in my path like before. These are real AD replications. I just add
the company+users folder name to help keep track and organize. I still
need the profiles replicated like before.

Hello John,

If i run on a member server in the run line %logonserver%\sysvol\mydomain.local
it works fine. Did you try it this way?

Yes I did. I have tried every variation I could think of. No go. :(

Re: Roaming Profiles - Win 2008

Fist of all Microsoft is fully of cr^p! They need to quit messing around and
fix this problem, this a big!!! They sold us all a useless tool! Vista and
2008 server is flawed. %longonserver% has been here for years, and is very
important! For anyone that is using DC's.... YES this is how its suppose to
work : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/141714... You know it and I know it!
Please don't show me! I'm glad you know how it work too, don't give us a link
to something we already know. It work before and should work now! Plan and
simple....fix it!

there more people out there just like us:

http://forums.technet.microsoft.com/en-US/winservergen/thread/46b2dbe5-dc5a-495d-8760-dea26aba8cc2/

if you search more you will find a lot more.... sp1 did nothing for us!

You cant even get vista to work with 2003 server.....
