Why some wav files cannot be played on Vista x64?

Hello.

http://misako.co.kr/externaldata/ok.wav
http://misako.co.kr/externaldata/error.wav

We can go to the control panel-> sound -> sounds tab -> (choose an
event ) -> browse , and the click "test" to listen to the wav file.
The two files above seem to have the same properties. Ok.wav is played
fine but, error.wav cannot be played on the dialog box under Vista
x64. I tested the same file on 32bit Windows XP, it was played fine.
Do you have any idea why the "error.wav" cannot be played under Vista
x64's sound dialog?

Not only this error.wav, but there are many other wav files that
cannot be played on that dialog or Outlook's rules.

This question was originally posted to the Outlook group, because I
first thought that it was a problem of Outlook 2007.

Right-clicking, Properties and Details shows that those are 64kbps files.
That means they are lo-fi highly compressed wavs.
Vista uses 1411 kbps wavs for their sounds.
Now I am just guessing...
Will Vista allow only "hi-fi" sounds for itself?
Are all your control panel non-playable files encoded at 64kbps?

According to GSpot 2.70a, those files are actually MP3, not WAV.

Poster "andy" is right.
Those "wavs" are actually mp3's.
Convert them to wavs and you will be good to go.
If you have Nero installed, Nero Wave Editor could do the job for you.

GSpot is wrong. The header of both files clearly indicate that they are wav
files.

both files started with

Are they really mp3 files? Because other mp3 files I have started with
something like
ID3.......TPE1.......no artistTALB.......Danny
boyTIT2.......AudioTrack 04MCDI...$..1.1.+.9.6.+. (I know this is ID3
tag)

Someone (or something) is playing games with us here.
I have two copies I downloaded two times today of error.wav.
One of them has the ID3 header, corresponding to MP3 and the other sample
has a RIFF header corresponding to WAV.

Zootal,
Strange things are happening with both of these files.
I downloaded error.wav twice this afternoon.
One of the copies has a RIFF header ("wav") and the other copi has an ID3
header ("mp3").
Still scratching my head...

Just use a program such as Free Audio Editor to convert those files to
true WAVE files. Then they'll play without any problem.
