Windows Update fails on Vista Home Premium 32bit

I've been trying to install Visual Web Studio 2008 Express for over a day now
and got a problem installing .net framework 3.5. I searched for a fix and
found out I had to do a windows update. So I started windows update and it
didnt work. It starts searching for updates but then stops and says it can't
find any update (error 80080005).

I'm logged in as an administrator user and my windows version is legit. Here

Does that mean you have downloaded .Net Framework 3.5 and tried
to install it? Then you would have diagnostic logs which would tell you
precisely which dependencies are failing.

Where do you see that? Usually the opposite advice is given:
download an update and install it manually. That way you will get
better diagnostics if it fails but usually (given the correct dependencies
are in place) it is more likely to install cleanly.

More confirmation that the problem is a missing dependency? ; )

I knew I forgot to mention something! Anyway. The missing dep was .NET
Framework 2.0 SP1. The only way to install that (to my knowledge) is by
installing Vista SP1. The installation of Vista SP1 fails to install.

Any word on this or should I reinstall after just using this install for a
month?

I upgraded my realtek audio driver in the meantime, but that didnt help much
either.
