Is there a way to have server 2003 use the wireless only for internet and the
LAN for local network activity? I got them both connected but the server is
always trying to use the LAN for internet but there is no internet on the
lan. it's the wireless that has the internet. Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

How does the machine get its network config? If both NICs get their config
from DHCP there is not much you can do unless you have control of the DHCP
server. (Incidently, why do you have both wired and wireless NICs in a
server? Are they both getting IP addresses in the same IP subnet)?

If you do the config manually, make sure that only the wireless NIC has a
default gateway set.

No the Lan is on a different network which is just setup as local LAN to
access and share files. The wireless is connected to a different network
which is the internet. The server isn't setup as a DHCP. It's just acting
right now as a storage server. The local LAN get's it's IP from the router
that is setup as a DHCP. And the wireless from another network.

RE: Change priority of LAN and Wireless

Ok I got it working. Thank you so much. It was the simplest thing. I just
left the default gateway blank on the LAN leaving the ip address and subnet
and left the wireless' default ip gateway and settings it was assigned. The
server now gets the internet from the wireless and the LAN is just used for
local connections.

Thanks!!!

Re: Change priority of LAN and Wireless

just as a little extra info.. if you open up the network connection list
there is an Advanced menu, and if you select Advanced Settings you can
change the connection priority.

what you did with removing the default gateway is the best solution, but you
can also change the device priority.
