Licensing Server - possible issue?

I'm not sure if I have a problem with my licensing server or not. Months ago
my licensing server was moved from one DC to another and the old DC has long
since been decommissioned, and actually now gone from the network. The new
licensing server appears to be handing out licenses - but it's only assigning
the Win2000 Builtin CALs to the workstations since these workstations are
logging into a Windows 2000 Citrix box. If there are remote clients out
there who still have a TS license on their machine given to them by the old
licensing server, will there license ever expire considering it is a built-in
license? Is that why I don't see many new ones being issued on my new
licensing server? I had a TON on my old server and my new server only has 20.

I also had an issue where I had purchased a Windows 2008 TS device CAL
(since I can't purchase 2003, but was told they can be installed on 2003
licensing servers) for a remote workstation running XP Media Center (I
thought I needed a CAL for that OS because it wouldn't get a Win2000 built-in
CAL, but maybe I was wrong), but after installing the license and having the
user make the connection, her computer did not pick up this DEV cal, nor did
the PC get listed as being assigned a "built-in" CAL. However, she was able
to login and launch the Citrix app. I'm not sure if she'll get a box one day
saying she can't log in anymore, but there was also nothing listed for her
computer name as far as temporary CAL either. This person happens to be a
remote client logging in and they run Citrix on their own network, so maybe
her license from her network is a built-in 2000 CAL and it just works??

I'm kinda confused here as what is happening so I would really appreciate it
if someone could help me make sense of what might be going on.

Thanks so much!

Re: Licensing Server - possible issue?

The license server will only issue licenses if it is a new client who does
not have any license or a client with built-in license that needs a full
license. Built-in licenses will not expire.

In the second case, XP client does not need license to connect to 2000.
