Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

If you need it, you should have one on the motherboard. That is a chip and
not a device that you can simply drop into a connector somewhere. What you
do need - I would guess, is a 64bit driver for the PCI to PCI bridge that
you have, which VIA may not have developed, you will have to check with ASUS
for the existence.

Doesn't appear ASUS like direct linking to there drivers, but put in the
model of the motherboard A8V-VM SE into the Input Model to Search on the
top left of the page and then goto the Others catagory

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

You should be able to find current (and at least one past) set of drivers at
www.viaarena.com as well.

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

Yes, it's the driver that I'm looking for. I've been to the ASUS site and
looked all around but I wasn't been able to find it. I'm not sure if ASUS
has it. It's the reason I'm here, to see if Microsoft has it for XP Pro x64.

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

If MS had it, it would be on your install DVD, or issued through Windows
Update.

As you 've concluded, much development isn't happening with XP x64 any
longer - Vista is the new consumer product and that is what everybody is
focusing on - sad, but true!

David is having some very good points, now! If you don't have the Nero
Suite, perhaps you should get that one and make this simple transplant?

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

What I'm referring to are updates that I'm told are needed by several
internet driver programs that offer to update these items for a fee. The
names given are the ones that the programs have said I need. If these
programs can download and install these items, I don't understand why I can't
find them myself. I did with a few of them but this driver and ASPI are
eluding me.

I just downloaded "nVIDIA ForceWare WHQL Drivers v 177.35 for Windows XP
64-bit / Server 2003." When I tried to install it, I received a message that
said that I don't have the needed drivers for it. I thought it was a driver
unto itself.

Could it be that my Windows XP Pro x64 program has become defective and a
Repair is needed?

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

I believe that those are unreliable and by no means accurate. I recommend
you not use them. They will tell you that you need an update when it is
either the wrong version or even the wrong device. Don't trust them.

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

It's easy enough to run the driver-finding programs and then look for the
drivers by myself. Maybe the reason I can't find ASPI and the VIA PSI to PCI
Bridge Controller driver is because they don't truly exist. From now on, if
I can't find them after a good search, I'll just leave well enough alone.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Need to find a VIA PSI to PCI Bridge Controller

Yes that's the best plan. I was just concerned that you would have to pay
to do it and I don't think the driver-finders are reliably up to date or
equipped to test what they push. With our laptops we do not install new
drivers unless the laptop's mfg is providing it or we are directed to by MS
during troubleshooting. I'm a little more casual with the desktops because
they are custom built.
