I have a file and print server that I am migrating to a new domain and also
renaming. I setup a DNS record and performed the steps in the following
article to get the server's file shares to work under both the current DNS
name and what will be the new DNS name. 281308 -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281308.

But it seems that my users' PC's can only add printers under the current
server name \\servername.olddomain.com\printerName and not
\\newname.newdomain.com\printerName. is there any way to allow them to add
printers under the new name so i can get them all set under the new name
before i change the server's name, to avoid the headache of having all my
users calling Monday morning saying they can't print?

RE: network printers via 2 different DNS names

actually, i can add the printers via the new name if i use the FQDN, sorry.
the printers do work, but their Status shows as "Access denied, unable to
connect". is that just because i'm connected via the new name and domain
which the server hasn't been changed to yet?
