Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 53% complete. Do not turn off your computer - endless loop

It is quite easy to reproduce this problem on my Proliant DL360 G5. After
installing Windows 2008 Enterprise, and enable Hyper-V, then doing Windows
Updates, the next restart will bring the server into forever loop at
"Configuring updates: Stage 3 of 3 - 53% complete. Do not turn off your
computer". I have to force power off to end it but when the computer start
up again, it will go back into this loop. Doing a Google search, I found
other people are also facing the same problem, so it seems to be a serious
bug in Windows 2008. Has there been any solution yet?

Hello Hii,

Have a look here, even it is for Vista, maybe it can help:

The methods in KB949358 can break the loop but can't solve the problem. I am
not able to remove the Hyper-V role, neither can I use it. In the server
manager, when you open up "Roles", it says "Roles: Error". When I clicked on
Error Details, it popup a dialog: "Unexpected error refreshing server
manager: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF
(E_UNEXPECTED))." When I opened up Hyper-V Manager, and clicked on Virtual
Network Manager, it says "There was an error enumerating the machine's
network switches. Make sure the Hyper-V networking service is installed and
working properly."

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950792/en-us mentions about this problem and
saying the cause is HP Network Configuration Utility, but I checked my
server never have HP Network Configuration Utility installed.
