I have XP Version 5.1 Service Pack2 OS, Nortons Anti-Virus, and serveral
programs installed. Most of the Media Center Games and programs have been
uninstalled.
It seems to take much too long for the PC to boot up, and when it boots,
after a few moments, the screen turns black and then resumes for a few
seconds before it's completly booted.
What services are esential for the PC to run properly in the Start
MSconfig-Services. I tried stopping on several and then the Nortons stopped
working. I restarted them. What other services can I stop? Is there a link
that explains what each service does?

Thanks

STOP ANYTHING "NORTON".

Then stop it again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

And again.

Re: Slow Boot up

Your right, I kill the Live Update Service (Via a script file) first thing
after updating, then you kill it again after it runs a scan, if you don't
kill it, it's will slow down a PC multiple times each day.

Depending on both hardware, and software and version of software, what you
see may be normal. Its Symantec, not Nortons. They (Symantec) call the
application Norton AntiVirus. The incomprehensible and non-responsible
drivel afterwards may also have something to do with it as well. But you
fed the anti-Norton gang, so all is well I guess.

Norton uninstall tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

....then go for:
AOL Active Virus Shield (you'll be glad you did)

(DO NOT download the toolbar offered during installation!)
