Unable to join memberserver from remote location

Ladies and Gents,

I got a database server on a remote location which I want to join to my new
active directory infrastructure based on 2003. The database server has an IP
address of 172.1.9.2/16 and my dc's in the main location 10.0.216.1/21 and
10.0.216.2/21. From both location I am able to ping etc. Now when I want to
join the database server I am unable to do so. After I putted in the
credentials I recieve after 10-15 sec the error "The RPC server is
unavailable". All ports are open between my main and remote location. Anyone
got an answer?

check rpc service on dc and error logs on dc and member server.

I did check the rpc server on the DC. It is running. The rpc locator isn't
thats on manual. There are no errors on the database server only the error
which indicates that there is no rpc server available.

Hello Robin,

Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the DC's and the problem server.
Are some firewall's running on any server? Can you ping in both directions
with ip address and computername?

Re: Unable to join memberserver from remote location

Hello Robin,

The 10.x.x.x and the 172.x.x.x are not in the same range. Also on the 10.x.x.x
use the real ip address as the DNS server not the loopback ip 127.x.x.x

Whenever I have a problem at a remote site joining a computer to the
domain, it's because I don't specify the "full" name of the domain. In
my case, it's "hospice.local".

Is it possible that you have a domain name that is "single" (as in
"hospice" instead of "hospice.local")?
