share local folders error

this is the following error i get when trying to share a folder or drive;
"an error occurred while trying to share XXXX. the data is invalid. the
shared resource was not created at this time."

can anyone think of what might be the problem (simple file sharing is off,
all accounts have passwords, xp-pro-sp3, all firewall and protection of any
kind switched off during this error)

if not can anyone recommend a 3rd party program to allow me to share drives
and folders with other lan users? (shinkoru crashes, p300 is webbased)

I was using netmagic for some time, however it's not free.

"pure networks network magic"? also tells me the data is invalid.
