Applying your personal settings

My server did a hard stop this afternoon (0x000000 from what I could see).
The machine rebooted but when I logged on the machine sat at "Applying your
personal settings" for 20 minutes before I forced a hard reset, which of
course made the server run a chkdsk on the volume that takes well over 30
minutes to complete.

What makes a server lock up on "Applying... "? I've seen it before and
could only fix it by rebooting into safe mode, logging on, then immediately
rebooting normally. I've found many fixes for the problem for client
machines, but not a single fix for when a 2003 server is doing it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Applying your personal settings

Hello Wowbagger" privacy, please,

Firstly, start the server as normal, without interfering anything. Do not
make a hard shutdown during startup, let it run. I don't know if you have
configured the policy, "Shutdown server when security log is full". If yes
it takes really long for a startup and you also have to do additional steps
to get it back running correctly. This shutdown looks like a BSOD, but the
description in the window states exactly this message.

Best regards

Re: Applying your personal settings

That policy is not enabled.

When the server hangs on the applying personal settings screen what else can
I do besides a hard shutdown?

Re: Applying your personal settings

Hello Wowbagger" privacy, please,

Well, 20 minutes sounds much, but i would give it more time. Anyway, did
you try to map from another machine and delete your profile this way, so
that not the profile form the account you are using is preventing the login?

Re: Applying your personal settings

Deleting the Administrator account probably wouldn't be in my best interest,
and that's the account that was holding things up.
