DC Changes time

I have a 2008 server that is a DC. It also is the PDC master. Everyday at
9:00am the server rests the time back by 28 minutes. I have it configured to
get the time from the US Navy's NTP server. Because this is a PDc the whole
domain get the time from this server.

Hello rogerthomas,

What about chossing another time source? Do you see in the event viewer that
the incorrect time is from the NTP server?

Meinolf Weber,

I have tried several different NTP servers. I also get messages in the
system log that the "The time provider NtpClient is currently receiving valid
time data" from the NTP servers that I have tried. I know that I could
transfer the PDC master back to one of the 2000 DC that I have, but we want
to move foward by demotoing the 2000 DC's.

The old PDC was a 2000 server. The web page that you pointed out works for
XP and 2003. This problem has been driving me crazy for the last week. I
sorted the system log and it looks like this has been occuring since I
promoted the server to a DC. I wonder if the problem is the 2000 DC still
want to do the time. However why would the 08 server change only 28 min when
the three dc are all within 1 min of each other.

Hello rogerthomas,

Sorry for that:
In 2000, modify the "Type" value to "Nt5Ds" without the quotes under this
registry key:

HKLM\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\ W32Time\ Parameters\

Then use w32tm to configure the new PDCe to use an external time source.

Hello rogerthomas,

The 2008 has the firewall opened for port 123 UDP/TCP? Please run "netdom
query fsmo" on the 2008 DC and check that it really is the PDCEmulator.

Meinolf Weber,

Thanks for the info. I changed the Type in the registry on the 2000 DC.
The firewall is turned off on the 2008 server. Also, Ii is listed as the PDC
from the netdom command. I will let this posting know what happens this
weekend.
