I upgraded 3 pcs using windows vista upgrade ultimate.

2 pcs installed fine the 3rds power shut down while installing.

I switch on the pc it goes directly to windows error recover it will
not start in any safe mode as if i fo it says windows cannot complete
installation in safe mode!So i select the only one i can which is start
windows normally. It displays a blank screen for around 20 second the
goes to "Set up windows - Help protect windows automatically " screen
where i chose one of 3.

1.Use recomended setting
2.Install important updates only
3.Ask me later

I have tried all 3 - Doesnt matter which i choose because it take me to
"Review you time and date settings - So i chose my settings and select
next.

It displays thank you - with a start button - I press the start button.

Next screen to appear says " please wait while windows check your
computers performace".

*_THIS_IS_WHERE_IT_HANGS._*
Normally a green bar moves from left to right to display it is
installing but nothing happens - i have left it for an hr and
nothing!the HD light stops flickering also!

Now bear in mind i was upgrading from Vista i fear I may have
lost/damaged my personal file!Someone please tell me i havent!

I dont have a boot disk!

How can i sort this out!The only other screen i can get into is the
BIOS.

Can anyone help!

Hopefully - Cheerss

Re: Computer power shut down while upgrading to Vista

Hi,

The installation is likely hopelessly corrupted. Remove the drive and slave
it to a working system to recover your data. Then reinstall it, re-partition
and format, then do a clean installation.

This is why UPS units are strongly recommended for use during installs,
upgrades, and updates, and why a laptop should never, ever be left on
battery power during an upgrade.

Your computer may have overheated during installation and shut down to
protect components. Investigate whether you have adequate thermal
provisions, such as enough fans, etc. If it is a laptop it must be on AC
during installation of Windows and service packs.
