Re: AGP texture acceleration - Active or not ?
Indeed, extras that are now common with drivers but did not used to be so
common. Unfortunately, nowadays it seems you need to customize everything
and then check your add/remove programs in your pc to see if anything extra
did get installed that you did not want. For example, I like my 2nd
generation Ipod Mini with 6 Gigabytes but Apple insists on tying Itunes with
Quicktime although Quicktime seems to have too many security vulnerabilities.
I asked Apple about this and they arrogantly refused to seperate the two
programs. The second thing that I don't like about Apple is the proprietary
hardware unlike a PC that you can fully customize. The advantages of Apple
is good stores in my opinion and a good presentation and a solution in a box
with a disadvantage of paying a huge premium for the technology. Just my two
cents.
Anyway, please give me all the specifications of your PC especially
motherboard, CPU, hard drive, etc. The memory is important because if you
have over 512 megabytes and the video card has another let us say 256
megabytes then you are talking about over 768 megabytes of ram and Windows 98
Second Edition chokes on more than 512 megabytes of ram. I think it can only
address a maximum of 511 megabytes compared to XP 32 bit which can address
between 3-4 gigabytes if I am not mistaken. In 98 Second Edition once you go
over 1 gigabyte total memory then you are asking for problems and may even
have to lower your ram to have a functional 98 Second Edition machine if the
memory management strategies do not work but they are certainly worth trying.
It makes sense becase back in the day, Windows 98 SE did not need so much
memory for programs. In addition, make sure you have the patch from
Microsoft for faster processors over 2.1 Ghz.
