Help needed to fix XP/iTunes error

Anyone know of a fix for these Event viewer error messages in Windows
XP/iTunes?

They started appearing after I tried to update iTunes to the latest version,
and in that version my iPod is not 'seen' by iTunes when it's plugged in.
I have been through all the fixes suggested at Apple,com, tried to find
fixes through Google, and even tried Microsoft fixes for unrecognised USB
devices even though it's not Microsoft software.

My iPod does show up in Widows Explorer as a usb drive, and I have full
access to it in WinAmp as a portable MP3 player, but Win Amp does weird
things to the directory structure and mp3 files on the iPods hard drive.

I have given iTunes 'trusted application' status in Comodo Firewall which
gives it full access to the internet.

I never had these messages with the previous version of iTunes, and I've
reverted back to that version for the time being, and my iPod is being seen
again in iTunes...

Unfortunately that doesn't fix the problem, and I've already tried manually
deleting the upper and lower filters in the registry. My registry doesn't
have those keys at the registry location anyway.

Also Windows explorer does recognise the iPod as a removable hard drive and
gives me full access. It just the latest version of iTunes that doesn't see
the iPod, and I'm pretty sure it's related to the two messages appearing in
XP's Event Viewer for the Bonjour Service and iPod service. (installed as
part of iTunes)

Those are normal (non-problem) events.

At least iPod Service Event 0 is (I get this after every bootup, and
iTunes works just fine. I got rid of Bonjour after Apple installed it,
so I don't have any events from that). This event simply means that the
iPod Service is starting. I imagine that the same is true for Bonjour
event 1. As the messages themselves note, these are "Information"
events, not "Warning" or "Error" events.

These events are not the source of your problem (although you may
*think* they started to appear after you tried to update iTunes, I
strongly suspect that they were there all along).

I don't know what "fixes" you tried from the Apple web site, but if you
haven't posted a message in one of the iTunes for Windows forums, I
suggest that you do that. "Using iTunes for Windows" is more active, but
your question might be more on topic in "Installing & Upgrading iTunes
for Windows".

I think they're a symptom of the problem.

No they weren't. I monitor the events viewer on a daily basis, as it's a
good indicator of developing problems, problems with new software, hardware
errors, etc...
That's what it's there for after all.
