installing xp on partition 2 when partion 1 is corrupt

My problem is like this, i have Xp pro installed on a SATA drive which is
having 2 partitions as C: and D:, size of disk is 80 GB

Xp is installed on C Both system and Boot partition are same)

Recently I started having a lot of chkdsk error while satrting the machine
and while using it also, It appeared that volume has got corrupted or
developed surface defects.

I reinstalled the Xp on Same partition by deleting the partion C:\ but
problem reappeaed again.

So I decided to install xp on partion 2 (i.e D:\) on my system during the
installation using OS Cd

I observed that althoug h i had selected partition 2 during installation
,but xp's setup program first start formatting drive C:\ and since unable to
format it (Due to surface defects dispalyas a message) installation could not
be continued.

To resolve this problem,During installation when setup asks you to choose
and create partion i deleted the First partition, and then tried the
installation, i met with the same error Partition are not iwhich xp can
understand and again prompted to create partition 1 and then format it. No
luck

Thinking that (and guessing too) whole of my Partion1 will not be damaged so
in the next setup I created a 5 GB, 40Gb,30GB partitions and selected
Partitions 3 (i.e 30 GB) during installation, again the xp setup program
first went to format 5 GB partition , but this time this portion of disk was
healthy so it was formatted sucessfully ,

After formatting 5GB partition setup went on to format my 30 GB partion and
xp was finally installed, and I thiught that I had made good use of disk space

The real problem started here when i went in disk management i found C5
GB) was listed as system partition and E30 Gb) as boot partition.

since i dont want to run system on failing disk partion i thought to make
E:\930 Gb) as system partition

i used the diskpart to make it active and made the C5GB) partition as
inactive and copied the boot.ini and ntdetect and ntldr to E: partion and
tried to boot
the machine surprisingly my machine didnot started.

thinking that boot record are not written properly i used recovery console
to run fixboot E:\

No result,

when i tried to run fixmbr I meeted a warning MBR on your disk is not
standard writing a new MBR will make your partitions inacessible( why and how
the nonstandard MBR came into the picture, from where this nonstandard MBR
came ?)

i also tried to run bootcfg /rebuild no sucess,

i again reinstalled xp using 5Gb,40 Gb, 30 Gb trick ( No Luck)

My qustion is if you have a say 80, or 160 Gb HDD and for some reason your
HD is damaged (primary partion) then there is no use of purchasing big size
disks
as setup creates one primary partition other as extended and logical partions

CAN SOMBODY TELL ME HOW TO MAKE MY E:\ PARTION AS SYSTEM PARTITION WITHOUT
REINSTALLING WINDOWS AGAIN,

Is it happening because of extended partion and logical partitions created
by setup

HOW TO CREATE PRIMARY PARTITION USING SETUP CD ( NOT USING ANY PE)

WILL CREATING A PRIMARY PARTITION USING SOME PE WILL HELP ME TO INSTALL XP

just keep it simple.

"simple" is the key to
"success"

erase and wipe everything
from everywhere, as there
is simply too much corruption
and i don't think anyone here
will take the time to unravel
this pile of tangled string for
you.

next, be sure you computer
has a internal harddrive and
it is recognized by the c drive

next install windows to the
default drive which will be
the c.

next "enjoy"

later, if you want to make
pe's and install sata's, etc..
be sure to make a backup
of the c drive

also, if you are installing
other o.s's like linux, etc..
(in which it is likely you
have been doing), then

install one o.s. per hard
disk and not per partition.

This is a very large clue that the drive is *damaged*

Of course, the drive is damaged. You're painting rust.

Yes, the drive is damaged. Don't use it. You are wasting your time and
effort.

Don't even bother to do this. It is a waste of time.

The drive is clearly damaged and should be removed from the system and
replaced. You can't fix it; at best you may recover some of the data.

Get a new drive, remove the old one, install the new one, install XP to it.
*after* XP is fully installed, re-attach the old drive as a secondary or
external drive and copy off what you can.

For reference, where I am, 500 gig SATA drives are around $100. 80 gig
drives are perhaps $50 or $60.

Again, it's clear that your drive is failing and should not be used. It
certainly can't be relied on; you can't even install to it. If the same
sorts of problems appear with the new drive, consider replacing the rest of
the system.
