Dell 2850 and Windows Server 2008

I was told that a Dell 2850 cannot support Windows Server 2008. Is
there any truth to that? This is the exact quote:

"The 2850 was developed 1-2 years before Win2K8 was released.
Therefore drive support is not available in this generation of server.
The only Win2K8 server supporting this are the new 2950 MK3 servers"

Thanks,
Mick

Hello javamick,

If you would just check the Dell website for drivers yourself, you can find
this:

Server 2008 32 bit:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...stemID=PWE_PNT_P3C_2850&hidos=WNET&hidlang=en

Server 2008 64bit:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...temID=PWE_PNT_P3C_2850&hidos=WLHS1&hidlang=en

Re: Dell 2850 and Windows Server 2008

I think it is more likely to be a problem with the processors rather than
device drivers.

The processors need hardware virtualization and execution protection. You
also need a BIOS which supports these hardware settings. The Dell 2850 is
not on any of the supported hardware lists I have seen. See this list, for
example.

Re: Dell 2850 and Windows Server 2008

But Hyper-V, hence hardware virtualization and DEP, are not a
requirement for Windows Server 2008 - it's an optional role. YOu can run
WS2008 on other hardware.
