Windows Update is stuck at "Checking for the latest updates for your
computer..."

I've had this issue before and had to reinstall. It worked for awhile. I'm
not going to reinstall Windows XP every week because there is no solution to
this bug. I will buy a Mac.

Why won't MS recognize this issue? It's a Microsoft bug.

Here are the last few lines of my WindowsUpdate.log:

"FATAL: Call to CallbackWorker() failed" is obviously the problem, why is it
failing? Is there any way to find out why it is failing or do we all just
have to make wild guesses? No, I have no viruses, no spyware, no IE7
toolbars or add-ons. I swear I've tried every single documented "fix" for
this with no success.

RE: Windows Update Stuck

Yes I use CCleaner regularly but that's not the problem.

I SOLVED IT!

For future reference, it was a program conflicting called "Hide My IP" from
www.hide-my-ip.com. Not RUNNING this program, but simply having it INSTALLED
screwed up Windows Update. I don't believe it runs any services in the
background when the program itself is not running, but it may.

I uninstalled this program and I got to Windows Update successfully a bunch
of times. I then reinstalled said program and the problem reappeared.
Uninstalling it again and I can get to Windows Update just fine. So I am sure
it's this program that is doing something unsavory upon install.

Thanks.
