I upgraded my computer with windows update SP3 and all the latest updates.
Now I can log in once remotely with remote desktop but after that once I log
out I can't log back in until I reboot the computer that I am trying to
connect to.

Contrary to the fact that people think SP2 only comes with all the
updates release to Windows Update and a few thing from Vista, it does
in fact come with Remote Desktop 6.1. If you're connecting to another
PC or server, there's some new switches that replace the old methods
of connecting.

You should take a look here:

and some references in here:

Sorry, that was meant to be SP3. What is the remote machine you are
connecting to, server...XP?

Re: Remote Desktop not working after upgrade

I am having the same problem after SP3 installation. I do not even see the
Remote Desktop Connection in the Accessories. The articles you quoted seem
to be talking about connecting with Windows Server 2008. I need to connect
to Server 2003. Do you know if there is a way to restore the old
functionality?

I think it is pathetic that SP3 update shows up in our "New Updates are
Available" thingie and totally changes the functionalty of our computers
without warning what it is about to do.

Re: Remote Desktop not working after upgrade

The remote machine is a desktop computer with windows XP professional on it.
It works once to connect to it but won't work again until I reboot the
remote machine.

Re: Remote Desktop not working after upgrade

Here's one possibility:

You cannot connect to a remote computer or start a remote application when
you use Terminal Services Web Access or Remote Web Workspace on a Windows XP
SP3-based computer:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951607

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for
Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and
e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.

Is the other PC also at SP3 level?

I don't know the statistics behind it but I would surmise the majority
of users wouldn't even know what Remote Desktop is. PA Bear posted a
link to a KB article I was going to suggest beyond those two I already
have so please have a look at his post to rene.

Good advice to know. Thanks. Hopefully a more permanent fix will
emerge in the near future.
