Hi

Wonder if anyone has come across following problem. When my customer tries
to install Server 2008 via volume licensing using KMS key they get error
message

"Error message when you try to activate a copy of Windows Vista by using the
Windows Activation wizard: "The Software Licensing Service reported that the
product key is invalid: 0xC004F050"

but all the info about this error points to it being Vista and not Server
2008!

Any ideas?

regards
Cheryl

Re: Server 2008 Volume Licence Activation Issues

Hello cheryll01,

Error code 0xC004F050
Symptom
When you try to use KMS, a KMS client, or a MAK to activate one or more computers,
you may receive the following error message:
0xC004F050
The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid.
Cause
This issue may occur if the KMS key is not entered correctly. Also, this
issue may occur if the key for a beta version of the operating system has
been entered when you are using the release version of the operating system.
Workaround
To work around this issue, install the appropriate KMS key on the corresponding
version of Windows. Verify that the key is entered correctly. If you copy
and then paste the key, make sure that em dashes (â?") are not substituted
for en dashes (-) in the key.

If the problem is really poiting to Vista when installing server 2008, i
would call MS Support for this.

Re: Server 2008 Volume Licence Activation Issues

Hi Meinolf

Thanks for the reply. Interestingly I rang Microsoft and they wanted to
charge £199 for the pleasure of me explaining the problem in that a Vista
error code occurs when someone tries to active Server 2008!

The customer is well versed in VAT 2.0 so unfortunately Edwins pointer to
the generic licensing activation website doesn't help either.

Back to the drawing board.

regards
Cheryl
