I find this a very odd quirk of XP SP3 which on a brand new OS installation
as well as old sp2 and the upgrade to sp3 via WU, I started noticing certain
files were locked and I couldnt delete them etc... Long story short I found
out that the programs that I had used to access those files even though were
terminated correctly and without any errors were indeed still showing running
under the taskmanager running allowng and consuming resources.

Theres many programs that do this like IE or winrara or Flashfxp or any
other program I can think about.

Im not exactly what you would call a newb and this was certainly not my
first OS install in fact I can see my grey hairs and my memories of when
great things like commodores were the rage...

I have investigated this via intense googling and by discussing with
softwrare developers and all to a mist....

I cant find a cause but I did find that when I had SP2 this never happenned.

Also I have indeed tried justa a slipstreamed sp3 install with no avail.
(note to those wanting to install a slipstreamed version of sp3, please
dont) MS made made mistakes on this release suffice to say a ceratin LLTD
amonsgs others.

Despite many errors I have found and cures I have posted in variuous places
regarding otehr OS issues I am stumped on this one...

Could a kind soul please give me a concise action plan or to where I should
be checking somewher to look or mauybe even a KB installed that is causiong
this or even something as simple as a rege hack.... AT this stage Im ready to
just ignore SP3 alltogether is no other solutions vcomes of this...

BTW please dont just say "well dont use sp3" have some respect...

I have no abnormal softwares installed and I assure you all that I am Virus,
malwares,n spyware, rootkits and so on clear...

perhaps the anti-virus is set to scan files when you open them and that
is preventing them from being fully closed?

Maybe I should have mentioned that this also is the case on a virgin fresh
XP with SP3 slipstreamed install.

I ahve indeed left most likely "obvious" avenues completly and fully
explored. Of course I shoulf be so arrogamnt as to say that I was perfectly
meticulous but this is not a case of trivial "happenings"

I would however apprecciate a experst view on this case and that maybe
ceratain solutions be proposd except the obvious as not to install SP3.

while on that not I notice that a groing number of machines are affected by
bugs and they so happen to be AMD CPU based like mine since I assure that the
same instalation on an intel based machine does not display the described.

I lack the skills and I really need expert Microsoft help.... SInce in fact
it was theire poor quality of this sp3 that has caused this. So there must be
an answer somewhere.

Thanks for your reply bob nonthe less...

Perhaps you have a HP/Compaq pc? The "poor quality" alluded to is due to
issues caused by incorrect drivers having been applied by that
manufacturer to the AMD line of products they produced.
