Good morning!

We have a situation where a client has a couple of servers on-site and all
the other servers (including the two Terminal Servers) are at a co-lo.
There is a Firewall-to-Firewall VPN between the two locations, so
connectivity is not an issue (well.....).

More specific information: there are some eight shared networked printers
that are physically located "on-site". They are all shared on one of the
two servers (\\servername\printersharename). Adding them / accessing the
printers is not an issue - on the local LAN or via a TS Session.

My question is this: when a user logs onto a TS session I am able to add
all eight of the networked printers. However, that process takes several
minutes per printer. I am going to be setting this up in advance for each
user (log on as "him" or "her" and add each printer). Is there any way to
cut down on the time? I assume that the issue is that the print server is
located "on-site" while the two TS Servers are at the co-lo and the drivers
are traveling over the VPN. The printers are all Xerox printers (4510, 8650
and 7345).

PS. The print server where these printers are shared will be going away (in
the near future)......
PSS The vast majority of the clients will be attaching to the TS via Thin
Clients (a few will have PCs).

Thanks!

Cary

Re: Printer question

Are the connections slow after you've set them up as well? What sort of
connectivity is between the sites? If it's always slow then 3rd party
products like ThinPrint, Tricerat, Provision Networks may be in order.
