printer folder won't open onn win2k server

Hi,

The printer folder on one of my windows2000 servers won't open (also a TS),
it just hangs.

Also the server cannot browse the network, again it just hangs. No issues
until I ran windows updates earlier this month. I've removed the windows
updates which were installed but still no joy. The office updates(office
2003) I installed can't be removed as they aren't in add/remove programs.

If I reboot the server it works fine for just over an hour then starts with
these issues again.

Any ideas please guys? No errors in event viewer.

Have you recently upgraded your NIC driver? If so roll it back. If
not, upgrade it.

Does this server have any core roles in your network?

Thank for the reply.

The server has only had some windows and office updates from earlier this
month, the windows ones I've removed, the office ones aren;t showing in
add/remove programs.

The spool service has started crashing every two minutes. I've downloaded
SP4 and will reinstall and reboot, apart from this I'm at a loss. The
server is a terminal server.

Have you recently upgraded your NIC driver? If so roll it back. If
not, upgrade it.

Does this server have any core roles in your network?

There are two primary things that can cause the spooler failure when
starting. There is a print job causing the crash or one of the print
drivers installed is causing the spooler service failure.

If the issue is a job, when the spooler is not running move or delete the
contents of \windows\system32\spool\printers (if this is you default spool
directory).


If the issue is a driver and the spooler will not run long enough to delete
them, then you will need to remove them from the registry so the spooler
does not load the files.

Hi,

I've reinstalled the ms updates again and the spooler has stopped crashing,
however after about an hour you can;t open the printers folder, browse the
network or browse to the server in question.

No errors in the vent logs either.
