Permissions to my folders and files as administrator

Good afternoon.
I am running Vista Ultimate and am having problems opening some of my
folders and files. I am a full administrator of my home computer, yet there
are certain files and folders in documents and settings that i am denied
access. I have turned off UAC and tried changing the properties of the
folders to give me access, yet it will not let me on some folders. On others
, I am actually able to change permissions to inherit the parent folder and
all objects under it. I never had this problem in XP. I could not do anything
until I found out how UAC worked, even on administrator rights. Is there
something else I am missing that is new in Vista .

I am getting it on all the folders in Documents and Settings All USers folder
and subfolders. Default User folder and subfolders. I figured out how to
change the security to my user id, but I have to do each and every child
folder. I tried by checking "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" but
it does not seem to filter down the tree. If I apply this to "All Users"
shouldn't all the subsequent subcontainers and objects also change also?

Aah yes. That's what I figured. That is not actually a folder. It is a
junction point pointing to the new location. There is a Deny permission
placed on it to wean people off the old namespace and onto the new. See this
output from the command line:

C:\>dir /a
Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is F67D-4CCD

Directory of C:\

07/25/2007 00:17 <DIR> Boot
11/02/2006 02:53 438,840 bootmgr
11/02/2006 06:00 <JUNCTION> Documents and Settings [C:\Users]
07/30/2007 15:03 <DIR> Program Files
07/26/2007 08:16 <DIR> ProgramData

The actual location for Documents and Settings is c:\users and if you try to
list that it will work just fine.

BTW, it is a Really Bad Idea (TM) to go changing ACLs on built-in files en
masse. You run a great risk of destroying your system when you do that.

You are correct. They are workimg well from C:/Users Thnks so much. Another
issue resolved.
