I want to schedule my backups. Is OK to use an external USB drive for
daily backup storage?

It is OK.
But I suggest you to use a tape to do this.

yes it is OK --> B2D is used a lot more these days
and far easier + faster than tapes if you ask me

if you buy 2.5" drives they are also easy to transport + they can
handle some rough handling better than their desktop sibblings

It depends on the type of Backup Software you are using. If you use Backup
Exec the older versions would not allow backup to disk to an external drive,
but you could get around this with some registery tweaks. The new version
12 does not allow this tweak.

If you are using a newer tape drive the speed is faster or the same as a usb
drive (depends on tape drive type).

Are you removing it after daily backups are done?

If not I would look adding an external scsi drive. It is much faster, and
the system treats it as disk drive not a removable disk drive. Back up
software has no problems with this.

I do have a few of the non-profits using a usb drive for backups, but is is
used to store a monthly disk image (Acronis) of the server(s), and then
store of site (Poor mans version of offsite backup host).
