RemoteAPP sessions show disconnected on server but don't log off

After we close down a RemoteAPP, we see that the user session is
disconnected on the server in Terminal Services Manager. These sessions are
not logging off on their own. We have to right-click the session and select
log-off. How do we get the log-off to happen automatically when the user
closes the RemoteAPP?

How long do you wait? There's a delay, but the session should log off on
its own eventually.

If there's a long wait, can you tell us what processes are running in the
session?

It's a long wait. It's been almost 2 days now. Here are the processes in
the user sessions.

User 1

- tlsbln
- rdpclip
- taskeng
- slui
- rdpshell
- rdpinit
- dwm

User 2 Same as user 1 plus...

- wlrmdr
- servermanagerlauncher

Just to be sure, it looks like Win2k8 server, what is the Windows version of
Terminal Services are you running?
Does this happen to all published RemoteApps and users?
Do you know what RemoteApps your users were running when this happened?

Re: RemoteAPP sessions show disconnected on server but don't log off

When this happens again, try killing the non-windows processes one by one
and see if that will finsih the logoff automatically. For instance, kill
slui, if nothing happens, kill taskeng. One at a time, give it a few
seconds to see if logoff continues, then continue. If you one of them is
killed and logoff continues then we can move on to the next step :)

Yes, it is Windows 2008. It happens to all users with our published
accounting software package. I am testing Calculator and I will post back
if it logs off.

Yes, I am in the process of doing that. So far I stopped tlsbln, taskeng,
slui and dwm. I still have
rdpinit, rdpclip & rdpshell to test. Thanks.

And that's expected with those. So that means it's not a user process
that's holding up the session. what about Anti-virus? Have you tried
disabling/uninstalling that?

This is a new server. I haven't installed an AV on it yet. Is there a
Group Policy setting that can force the log off? thanks.

If they click the X, it should log them off or at least that should be
expected behaviour. How about adjusting the setting of Disconnected or
dropped connection in TS Config? Sorry i can't remember the actual name and
my TS boxes are all down :(

Jeff, that was it. By default, the install did not have any disconnect
settings set. When I went into the TS Config and set them, it worked. I
didn't know about these settings. Thanks a lot.
