Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109) (MSSMLBIZ) Update Problem

I have XP Home Edition upgraded to SP3 and am trying to get the Subject
security update to install, but after a long (I'm still using dialup)
download and attempted installation, I get the following error message:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable
disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (MSSMLBIZ)' disk
and click OK. So I clicked OK and got the following message:

"The path 'Please insert next disk' cannot be found. Verify that you
have access to this location and try again, or try to find the
installation package 'sqlrun_sql.msi' in a folder from which you can
install the product Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition"

The only disks that came with my computer are a "System Recovery CD"
and a "Drivers Resource CD".

I may add that after reading various post on the same subject I found
this error message in the HotFix File:

07/30/2008 07:01:43.453 MSP returned 1612: The installation source for
this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that

This is after attempting to manually install from a downloaded version.

I got the same message on 07/16/2008 when attempting to get it from the
update site.

I'm not that computer savvy and have no idea what to do next. Any
assistance is greatly appreciated.

Looks as if you should be looking for help from the installer of
the software.

Why do you even have SQL installed? Are you using it?
Perhaps uninstalling it would be a better solution,
e.g. removing software you don't use instead of trying to update it.

BTW you are more likely to get help with SQL specific symptoms
from an SQL specific newsgroup or forum. Cross-posting to one
for convenience.

Please call 1-800-936-4900 and open a case and ask to be routed to the
SQL-Public Team. There is no charge for this case as it has to do with a
Security Bulletin.

When you call please let them know that this has to do with Security
Bulletin MS08-040.

If they try to charge you, please let them know that there is free support
for any issues with Security Updates.

If the "Public Team" does not handle consumer issues or "free support for
any issues with Security Updates," it's misnamed IMHO.

Hello Folks,

I obtained the following from the SQL Team:

The 0x6AA error (or decimal 1706) is caused by missing media. This issue is
documented in KB 955250. The KB has instructions on how they can proceed on
it.

955250 Error message when you try to uninstall a SQL Server 2005 Express
Edition hotfix package: "1731 The source installation package for the

Re: Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109) (MSSMLBIZ) Update Problem

Re: Security Update for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (KB948109) (MSSMLBIZ) Update Problem

The fix for an "installation source...is not available" error when
attempting to install a hotfix/update is the same fix for an "installation
source...is out of sync with the client package" error when attempting to
*uninstall* a hotfix/update?

In this situation, should the line...

6. Uninstall the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition hotfix package again

n KB955250 be replaced with...

"Attempt to install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition hotfix package
again" ??
