Need to get this started. What licensing do I need? I have the OS, Server
2003 STD, ready to go on a VM host. I need to host five sessions who want to
use our third-party apps and MS Office 2003, which I do have open license
for.

I assume I need some sort of terminal service server license and five CAL's?
Or does the Server OS, which came with five server CALs, cover part or all
of this?

If someone knows the software skus from Microsoft or CDW please advise.

Thanks,
-Bob

Re: TS noob needs license advice to get started

If you already have the OS with the server CALs, you only need
Terminal Server CALs.
Note: both server and TS CALs come in 2 different tastes: Per User
or Per Device. Make sure that you choose the licenseg mode on the
TS which is best for you:

* if you have more users than clients (like in a classroom or
multiple shift situation, where several people connect to the TS
from shared workstations), then Per Device licensing is cheaper.

* if you have more clients than users (users connect from multiple
clients, i.e their office PC, a laptop and their home PC), then Per
User licensing is cheaper.

You have to install the TS CALs on the TS Licensing Server (can run
on the same server as the TS itself), abd make sure that the TS
licensing mode matches the type of licenses you buy.
