Friend's pc shows only black screen and a blinking cursor. He pushed
F2 and F12 only to get the Phoenix bios screen asking for a password
which is foreign to him.
How can he restart Windows?
Running Pentium based HP about 2 years old, don't have explicit
details.
He is in another city and doesn't have access to a Windows disk.
Bill

The blinking cursor often indicates that the system partition on
the hard disk is not marked active. Without suitable tool he would
not be able to fix this problem. Ask him to take the machine to
a computer repair shop.

Asking here is useless. This problem is occurring LONG before the OS
starts to load. In other words...

Ask elsewhere

Re: Black screen w/ blinking cursor

I'm working with a similar problem, and have asked for help earlier today. My
question is how do you tell if a partition is activated? I've used the
"Diskpart" tool in Vista, and see that the O/S is booting off the "Recovery"
drive rather than the "C" drive. So, how do I change that? Thanks Sandy
