VSMT Capture Problem

I am trying to convert a physical server into a Virtual Server.
When I attempt to capture the image of a Dell Poweredge 2950,
the capture progress goes wacko after 85% and the controller services takes
all the available memory. The Deployment Agent ends up disconnecting and the
image capture never completes.

The Job history reports the below information:
Capture progress: 10% (4912113 of 49121131)
Capture progress: 20% (9824226 of 49121131)
Capture progress: 30% (14736339 of 49121131)
Capture progress: 40% (19648452 of 49121131)
Capture progress: 50% (24560565 of 49121131)
Capture progress: 60% (29472678 of 49121131)

Capture progress: 90% (1259344 of 49121131)
Capture progress: 100% (6171458 of 49121131)

Capture progress: 1598270% (11228397 of 49121131)

Timed out when waiting for data from the remote machine.

Event Viewer reports:

Failed to open database connection for the following reason: Not enough
storage is available to complete this operation.

Any help appriciated.

Hi Diego,

Have you followed the System Capacity Requirements, especially with regards
to disk space?
From Microsoft...

Sizing physical computers that will host virtual machines is critical to
successful deployment. Before performing a migration, verify that the
computer running Virtual Server has adequate CPU, memory, and hard disk
resources to host the migrated virtual machines. In general, you should add
a reasonable buffer of at least 10 percent to your estimated resource
requirements, or make sure that there is a simple and quick way to extend
these resources if the need arises.
The following are some guidelines to follow when estimating system capacity:
* We recommend that you allow at least 384 MB RAM for the host operating
system.
* Make sure that the disk space you have allocated to store ADS images is
sufficiently large to house the images you plan to migrate.
* A hard disk partition or volume with 2 gigabytes (GB) free space to
accommodate the setup process, plus enough extra free disk space for the
images themselves.
* Because each virtual machine has an overhead of 32 MB of memory, add that
amount to the estimated memory resources for each virtual machine.
* Allow at least 10 percent free disk space for each virtual machine.
* Add a 10 percent buffer to the CPU allocated to the host operating system
and each virtual machine.
* Dedicate at least one network adapter to the host operating system to
allow for remote access for performing management tasks such as monitoring,
backup, and so forth.

Thanks for replying to my post.

Yes, I did follow the guidelines.

I gave the beta version of System Center Virtual Administration a try and I
had a similar problem which I believe is related to the capture process.

When doing a P2V, it complains about have a cluster size of 8 sectors or
less, which is how the Dell Applications format the Hard Drive.

This problem is supossed to be fixed in the RTM release.
