I'm feeling a little dumb about this, but how do you get the File Server
Resource Manager to show up in the MMC for Windows 2008??

Re: File Server Resource Manager question

Hello Steve,

Did you install the FSRM? Then it should add the mmc to the Administrative
tools. If not added, open Server manager, go to features and add the RSAT/FSRM
tools.

Best regards

Hello Meinolf,

Ok, I installed the FSRM, but when I try to use it on the server, I get:
"unable to connect to FSRM on resource" ????

What's up with that??

Re: File Server Resource Manager question

Hello Steve,

Is the FSRM service installed on the machine you are trying to connect to
as part of the File Server Role? What OS version do you use 32bit or 64bit?

This problem may occur when the DFSEXT.dll file is corrupted after service
pack installation. Please rename the DFSEXT.dll file in the %systemroot%\system32\dllcache
and %systemroot%\system32 folders, and then copy the DFSEXT.dll file from
a normally working Windows Server 2003 R2 machine or expand this file from
Windows Server 2003 R2 CD.

Re: File Server Resource Manager question

Hello Meinolf,

The file services role is already installed on this machine. This should
be a 32-bit Win2008 install. Yes, the FSRM is on the same machine that I
want to use it on.

When I search the Win2008 server for DFSEXT.DLL I don't get any results.

Re: File Server Resource Manager question

Hello Meinolf,

I was mistaken, it is the 64-bit version
