Window terminal license

Plan to install the windows terminal service on one of the windows 2000 server.

Would like to know do we need to purchase any licenses . the client pc
running windows 2000 and window xp

Hi:

Basicaly you need buy a Terminal Server (TS) CAL, per device (PC) you plan
to use. Nowadays MS is not selling TS CAL for Win 2000. As far as I know you
should buy the win 2008 and then "downgrade" them to win 2000, using the
clearinghouse service.

Check this last point, because I am sure it can be done with 2003 (win 2008
CALs downgrade to win 2003), but I am not sure if you still can do that with
win 2000.

I believe you can only downgrade one version so Win2k would not be
supported. Heck Win2k isn't supported at all anymore. I would highly
recommend going at least Win2k3. the benefits in regards to terminal
services are pretty big especially performance.

While I agree with Jeff that you should at least use Windows 2003,
you don't have to buy any licenses if you stick with W2K.
Since your clients run W2K and XP (I assume XP Pro), they will all
get a free license from the built-in pool of licenses on the TS
Licensing Server.

Yes, I guessed so. But that's understandable, Jeff. After all, W2K is
unsupported by now.
Juan, that's another reason to use at least 2003, you will have a
hard time getting support when you need it.
