Although I too don't like McAfee, and think it's among the poorest
anti-virus products, it's far from useless. I'd a lot rather have
McAfee than no anti-virus protection at all.

I've never heard of Shield Deluxe before, which leads me to suspect
that it's not one of the better products around.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. I don't know any reason why
anti-spyware software (Defender) should conflict with anti-virus
software. I wouldn't run two anti-virus products simultaneously, but
running one with an anti-spyware product should be fine.
