Disable Windows Defender?

I got rid of that useless MacKfee that came with the computer and installed
The Sheild Deluxe which works great with Vista. I was advised to disable
Windows Defender, as it would conflict with the new virus software. Is this
necessary?

I simply turned off the real-time protection, if you turn off WD all together
you don't have access to the software explorer either.

Some think that leaving everything on is "layered protection" I see it as 2
body guards vying for the same job they tend to get in each others way and
let the boss get shot. Layered only works if there is real coordination, I
doubt that WD or Vista firewall coordinate with any 3rd party security
software.

I take the recommendation to not use WD or the OS firewall seriously. But
that's just my opinion.

Although I too don't like McAfee, and think it's among the poorest
anti-virus products, it's far from useless. I'd a lot rather have
McAfee than no anti-virus protection at all.

I've never heard of Shield Deluxe before, which leads me to suspect
that it's not one of the better products around.

I don't know for sure, but I doubt it. I don't know any reason why
anti-spyware software (Defender) should conflict with anti-virus
software. I wouldn't run two anti-virus products simultaneously, but
running one with an anti-spyware product should be fine.

Why? What's wrong with the Vista firewall? No one should take a software
firewall very seriously anyway but I would rather use the Vista integrated
firewall than some POS 3rd party nagware. Most people don't even know what
nagware is alerting and most of the time they alerting you to something that
is not even a threat. But if you love nagware then you must certainly give
AntiHook and Outpost firewall a trial run at least. Or even better, run
Netveda Safety.Net at it's most secure level for some real silly fun.
