You may be shortsighted, but not everyone is.
Using Linux on older machines instead of replacing them makes sense for many
businesses.
It may not be the best for a multimedia desktop, but I have saved the
company many thousand$ by converting P2-P3 systems rather than buying new
machines. For doing word processing, spreadsheets, email and web browsing,
it works fine.
When the hardware is no longer sufficient, we'll be able to afford to update
(and we'll still be in business).
