Terminal Services, why is the clock being removed? GPOs?

We have a terminal server set up, every single policy we have has
"remove clock from task bar" set to disabled, the policies were
forcefully updated (gpupdate /force) yet still the clock is missing on
the task bar when a user logs on. Anything else I can check here?

Hi - I replied to your identical post in m.p.windows.server.general. In the
future, please don't multipost - if you need to post to multiple groups,
it's best to crosspost instead, by posting a single message to a handful of
relevant groups (separate the NG names with commas) so that everyone can
follow the thread. Multiposting wastes everyone's time, including yours, and
may lead to your actually getting *less* help rather than more.

(...& my advice was to run rsop.msc & gpresult).

Disabling the GPO setting will not *force* the clock to display in
the system tray, it will only allow users to enable the clock if they
have access to the system tray on the Terminal Server.
Read more about this here:

How can I enable the clock in the Taskbar for all remote sessions?

BTW, IIRC, I read in several places that having the clock displayed in a
TS session can have an impact on performance, since the clock updating
must go over the RDP (or TCP) connection and the server is expected to
update every client connected......

On all my TS servers I disable

- clock
- wallpaper
- screen saver
- display connection icon in the Taskbar when connected

Yes, that's what I also advise in the FAQ referenced above.
Enabling the clock uses an additional bandwidth of 173 bytes (1384
bits) for each minute for each client.

Thanks, this was very helpful although I have run into another issue.
The problem I'm having now is that I can't run it because the users to
not have sufficient rights to do so. Sure I can run it as
administrator, which would edit the key for the administrator only,
right? Here is the batch script I've made:
RUNAS /user:administrator "regedit /s C:\StuckRect2.reg"
PAUSE

UPDATE:
So I just removed my policies... unrestricted EVERYTHING, the key
applies fine but no clock still!

Unrestricted everything, why not just make all users Administrators
:-)

Did you read this:
Note that the changes do not take effect immediately, you have to
restart Explorer, or logoff and logon again to see the changes.

because these sets of users are not being used yet? So it's no big
deal. Anyways, Yes I did read that, logged on and off many times.
