Hi all..

I have been using Windows ME for about 4 years now without a problem and
like it alot..
but I'd like to use a different browser besides Internet Explorer. I seem to
get lots of error msgs on it now..
and more recently an "Operation Aborted" message, even during something
simple like going to Google.
I was wondering what is good browser to use with Windows ME?
Someone told me Opera, then someone told me FireFox, but I dont want to
start installing all
kinds of stuff then have problems later on or conflicts with other programs.

I also saw one called "Avant", I've never heard of it before and was
wondering also if
anyone knew anything about it?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

I have Mozilla Firefox, the complete SeaMonkey browser suite, and Opera
installed on a Windows ME computer (along with MS Internet Explorer 6), and
no trouble whatsoever. Other than browser updates nagging me to make them
the default browser if the updated browser is not default.

Re: A Better Browser?

The constant "nagging" can be turned off by removing the check in the
"default web browser" box located here -
IE = Tools > Internet Options > Programs Tab
FF = Tools > Options > Main
Opera = Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs

SM should be the same as FF.

Do you think? Or do you know? I know; they are *NOT* the same. Similar, yes,
but not the same. You might look closely at the menu layout between the two,
including where you have to go for configuring the browser options.

SeaMonkey: Edit > Preferences...

FireFox: Tools > Options...

If I knew for sure, I would have said "SM is the same as FF", but I'm glad
to have pointed you in the right direction so you're able to locate it.

Eh? That makes no sense. I *already* knew they were different. I suspect it
is more like you conning me into doing your research for you. ;)

Research for what? I was responding to your "nagging me" complaint. You must
be confusing me with the OP.

Re: A Better Browser?

Maybe you want to have as look at this, before adding another browser:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Operation+aborted+(IE6).

OIC. The nagging apparently can't be helped, nearly as I can tell. Update
the browser and it tends to forget your selection. It starts from the
assumption that you *want* the updated browser to be the default; regardless
of what you told it. Oh. Wait. I had uninstalled the older version because
it choked on the auto update. So the latest version was installed from
scratch...
