SD card reader problem

A friend of mine inserted his SD card into the reader on his HP Pavilion but did not get the dialog popup for the options to choose. He says this just started happening yesterday. He's running XP Home. Does anyone know why it's not reading it now?

How large is the card? My Gateway MX6124 can read cards up to 1GB just fine.
2GB it states something less than 1GB and can't read anything. Although
larger, it just doesn't see at all.

Hi Bill,

I'm not sure how big the card is but he says he can go into My Computer and
double click on the drive and open it up there.
