Express Install SP3 without any preparations to my machine?

Windows XP SP2
IE 7
Have all critical updates via automatic updates.
Last night when I was shutting down, the message was not to shut down that
Windows would do it. It was (1) of (1).

Today, I looked at the log, and it apparently had to with Vista, and most of
the text determined it was something I didn't need.

Just now, I have the gold shield that says my Windows updates are ready.
Since it isn't the regular day for updates I looked at the custom note to
see what it was and it is SP3.

I have rejected SP3 before because I hadn't read the pages of information.
Since then I have only read one of the Microsoft pages.

The Express installation here is the recommended one.

Does that mean I can go ahead and it will be a safe install with out me
doing anything ahead of time?

Thank you, Pa Bear. I'll do my homework. Can't help but wonder what would
have happened if I hadn't peeked to see what the update was.

Re: Express Install SP3 without any preparations to my machine?

Just read Harry Waldron's page. He says, "-- Optional, you may want to
temporarily disconnect from the Internet on home PCs to avoid any potential
interruptions (only if you're using the standalone version)"

So the gold shield with SP3 is setting on my status bar sp I'm assuming it
is there - complete. Disconnect? Is it true that it doesn't need to be
reporting back to Microsoft during the install?

Re: Express Install SP3 without any preparations to my machine?

If you're installing WinXP SP3 via Automatic Updates, the machine will have
to be connected to the internet for the installation to complete properly.
