I'm experiencing a problem with windows 2008 terminal server and my windows
2008 licens server.
The problem is quite simple: The license server dosent give licenses to my
2008 terminal servers but it will however give out licenses to windows 2003
servers.
This leads me to belive that there's some setting I've overlooked at my
license server or my 2008 terminal servers.
My TS can discover the license server and bring up information about how
many cals and so forth so they can see and bring up information from the
licens server.
Using group policy I've specified the license server to be used.
On the license server itself I've added the servers that needs license in
the "Terminal Server computers" group.
Still my Windows 2008 TS is not getting their license and since the grace
period has run out nobody can connect to them anymore so it's a big problem.

We're going to use "per device" cal's and I have set that option on the
terminal servers aswell.

Is your license server on the TS box itself or another box? have you tried
specifying the location directly in TS Config to the license server? Any
error messags? Have you added the server to the TS license group (forget
exact name) on the license server?

I think I coverd some of your questions in my inital post:
1. On the license server itself I've added the servers that needs license in
the "Terminal Server computers" group.
2. Using group policy I've specified the license server to be used.
Now to the rest:
I have 3 Windows 2008 Terminal servers and one aditional server where I have
installed Windows 2008 server and added the license server role.
Using the diagnostic tool under TSC all 3 terminal servers can see the
license server, but still no license is beeing issued.
I hope this helps some

Yea, the only message conserning this that I can see in the event log on my
TS is this:
"The terminal server cannot issue a client license. It was unable to issue
the license due to a changed (mismatched) client license, insufficient
memory, or an internal error. Further details for this problem may have been
reported at the client's computer."
Since the TS itself aint getting a lisense from the lisensserver I'm not
suprised that I get this message logged in event viewer.

I assume that your clients already had a 2003 TS CAL and now they
try to conect to the 2008 TS, correct? So there *is* a client
license mismatch.
Have you deleted the locally stored license from the registry of
one of the clients, just to see what happens?

We are having huge problems with simular errors.
However we only get these errors when using Wyse thin clients running thin OS.
The error is the same.
These terminals have been used with 2003 servers earlier, but I've cleared
the licenses using commands from Wyse.
When connecting using a PC everything works fine.
I can also mention that we had another license server running windows 2003
in this solution erarlier, but this server was deactivated when installing a
new one running windows 2008.
How can this prevent upgrade setting be checked?

I've checked in GP.
It was not configured, but I've put it to disabled now.
I'll check the terminals tomorow.

The license upgrade setting to disabled haven't made any change.
We don't have any windows 2008 DC's yet.. Could that be an issue?

Working out from the tips given so far in this thread I can now run a
diagnostic on the 2008 TS and get a report back that everything is fine.
It basicly says "License diagnostic did not identefy any licesning problems
for the terminal server"
The 2008 License server comes up as availible yet still no license issued to
my TS.
As pyroman says this issue conserns Wyse thin clients, but until the TS
itself get's a valid licens I asume the wyse thin clients will struggle?
