I have a recurring issue with one of my users. We use roaming profiles on our
network (windows 2003 servers SP2) his laptop has XP Pro SP2. Several months
ago he deleted a number of Word/Excel files from his desktop but they would
re-appear after he rebooted his system. I deleted the same files from his
desktop, his locally cached profile, and from his roaming profile. This
seemed to have solved the issue. Now those same files are back on his desktop
several months later. This exact same situation happened last year with these
same files. What is causing this and how can I permanently remove these files?

Re: Deleted Files Re-Appear

This happens if you have a roaming profile and do not delete copies of the
profile on all machines the user has logged on to. You can use delprof to
delete profiles on remote machines,

Funny, I replied to this but my post didn't show up. I'm wondering if it is
because of Vista's Windows Mail? Never happened under OEx. Unless it did
post and I am not seeing it in my view?

Anyway, I thought to reply with specifics about what is going on. Here was
my original post that didn't show up:

What third party tools are installed?
Using Redirection?
Are there multiple sites, with a different location to store profiles, that
may have an older copy of his profile?

Is the user logging on to different machines? If so, this can be the cause
if none of the others above apply. If this is the case, I would suggest to
implement Folder Redirection through a GPO for your user base. It eliminates
this issue and provides numerous benefits.

Here is more info on what you are seeing that explains it:

Files and Folders Reappear After Deletion with Roaming ProfilesAfter you
delete files or folders of a user's roaming profile, the files and folders
reappear. If a user has a roaming profile and logs on to different ...
