RE: DVD SOFTWARE IN WINDOWS XP
I can't find how to start a new thread, but this one seems appropriate. My
Dell Inspiron 2200 with XP was advertised as reading and writing DVDs. I[ve
deduced that it is the SONIC software which came with the computer which does
this. But I have a lot of trouble. I get this message: "DLA can read files
on this disc but you will not be able to edit or add to them." I find out
that DLA is some Sonic code. I am tring to use DVD+RW, which are supposed to
be read/write and editable. SO, I assume Sonic is the hang-up - maybe trying
to get me to send money for an upgrade. I'm not about to do that, because
I'm trying to move files (via DVD) to my new computer with Vista which
shouldn't require more software. Also I hate to have to destroy a DVD
rather than edit it just because some greedy program supplier won't provide
the proper ability.
From reading some of the discussion and stuff, I get the impression that XP
will only write the MASTER FILE way and not the LIVE FILE way which Vista
will do. I'm about to give up on using the DVDs on XP and try to transfer
files on a flashdrive. Or maybe I get a cable with USB on both ends and
transfer that way. I have a bunch of cables (serial, parallel, printer, and
??) but none to fit the ports.
I'll welcome any comments on any of this from all you experts. Thanks in
advance. (And tell Grumpy that we're not all as well-informed as he, but
most of us are better mannered.)
