I get stuff like this in my log when I try to install the SQL Updates: Can't
seem to get much information about it. I am running XP 64 bit SQL 2005 over
SBS 2003 Network where i am logged in remotely via VPN.

Re: 932557 64 bit Error Code: 0xA97 Update is not allowed to down

Re: 932557 64 bit Error Code: 0xA97 Update is not allowed to down

The Windows Update has been trying to update this one since before the fourth
of July.

I wonder if it is possible that this is related to a test CRM instance that
was placed on my network, or more likely, an attempted upgrade of Sharepoint
2.0 to 3.0... (not allowed on SBS 2003) If an instance of MICROSOFT##SSEE
is running in SQL 2005, it is inaccessible to the update process just as it
is inaccessible to me through SQL Manager.

I fear that calling for update help (which I did once already and I was
given a script to shut down wauupdt service, copy the update file to another
name, delete the update file, reregister the link libraries - the whole drill
- but it has nothing to do with the problem.

I also found a blog on SBS about enabling the MICROSOFT##SSEE by allowing it
to use something other than Shared - ie TCP and named pipes aliases - which
also does not work. The update is attempting to open this instance as 2000
rather than 2005.

urggh... I'll solve it eventually. Meanwhile, I apologize if my tone
sounds low... For now I will be content to spend my weekends torturing
myself over it. I think the reason the update is not allowed to download is
because it is already on the machine and has been for a couple of months.

Not according to the snippet of the WindowsUpdate.log you posted, no.
