I am nervous about extending my C: drive. A wonderful one over on
another forum directed me here.
I have a vista recovery cd.
That said I had earlier taken D: drive and removed all recovery
information.
I shrunk C: to allocate for D:
Dumb move, for some unknown thought at the time, I felt I could
seperate the spaces and it would be more useful.
Its not, so now I want to delete all that I have (which isnt anything
really) and repartition it back to C:
I was given instructions of how to do so, and understand that. What I
am worried about is at this point when I right click on C: there isnt an
extend option, its shaded and unusable, now will that come up a usable
option after I delete D:?
And then I can 'add' the 50G back over to C:?
Im worried as I have already used 'shrink' with C: and that it wont
take the D: back.

Leave it the way it is and put all your data on D. C is for Windows and
for programs. If you ever have to reinstall Windows, you can install it
on the C drive and your data on the D drive will be available. Also, if
your Windows gets screwed, you can set up the drive as a slave on
another computer and salvage your data.

Well I wanna suggest the same...use Vista Retail DVD for further
installation in C drive and use your license to activate your Windows
Vista .... Becoz your Recovery Disc always format the whole drive.

WHAT!? You think this is the Mickey D drive-up window where you get
instant service??????

It's early on a Sunday morning, babe. Be patient.

Re: Extending C: drive

if I needed to reinstall why couldnt I just shrink and recreate D: drive
for that purpose?

If you keep expanding and shrinking partitions, you're asking for trouble.

I learninLady,

You are not being ignored. It just has not been that long since you
first posted and some people come online at different hours. That's all.

Since you wiped out the D: recovery partition, you could create another
D: partiton, but you will not be able to restore it as a recovery
partition again. Once you delete a recovery partition it is gone. :(

You can extend whatever drive letter to the left of the D: partition
into D: , but two or more drive letter to the left or to the right of D:
. The only way to have one large drive again is to delete all the
partitions except C: , then extend them one at a time until you get back
to extending C: into the last one left.

Hope this helps,

Re: Extending C: drive

Hi Shawn,
I am sorry for the mini tantrum. Computers bring out the worst in me.
:o

When I first bought this computer, I made sure to have the recovery
cds. So that I have.
roughly two years ago after receiving everything, I then deleted D:
(recovery) and then partitioned C: to make two separate drives. all went
well.
I had done that because at that time I was considering putting a
different OS on here, I then decided to not do that.
Now, I wanted to consolidate both drives into one as C: is running out
of space and its a pain in the butt to use the two different areas.
So now I have deleted D: and extended C: and have all the GB back on
the C: drive.
All seems well enough, except now, I have a slow boot. I still have to
defrag and I am still installing a couple items that I wanted to keep
from the D: drive that I had backed up. So I do have quite a bit of
house cleaning left to do and hope that will solve the slow boot.
So that being said, if in the future I do need to use my recovery cd
will I be able to do so, only having the one drive. (C: or do I need to
create a separate drive? The earlier post has me confused, but hey most
computer issues do that to me

thanks again, and I will check and defrag my patience mode. ;)

Re: Extending C: drive

No problem LearninLady,

Yes, you will be able to use your OEM recovery CD whenever you need to
do a clean reinstall of Vista. You might also create yourself the
Recovery Disc in this tutorial so you can use it to run the System
Recovery Options screen to just repair instead of a clean reinstall.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html

You might also look at these item to help improve your computer's
performance.

Hope this helps,

Hardly, the jackass Frank posts from there too. He's the biggest idiot
here. Where you post from or what news reader client you use isn't any
indication of how knowledgeable you are... or not.

It indicates that I understand USENET.
You do not casually arrive at using Aioe thru Windows Mail.

Frank your boyfriend ?
Noticed you mention that name in another recent post.

It's that I own that moron. He can't sit down in front of his computer
without having his weak little mind infested by me!...LOL!

Re: Extending C: drive

Ah very good!
so what the personal recovery cd is like doing a systems restore via cd
disc?. If something were to happen I could use that to restore to the
recorded point of making that disc.

I did a quickie look/see at the speed up on vista, Ive done most of
that, but will take more time and see if there is something, which I'm
sure I have missed.

You don't even own the crap that constantly falls out of your mouth.
You are seen as a senile old fool with some very strange sexual
fetishes involving sheep and other barnyard animals that you
constantly obsess over and make some feeble attempts to suggest others
share your fantasy of having sex with them.

Re: Extending C: drive

Kate,

Yes, the one from the tutorial will let you do that. The OEM Recovery
CD that you already had will only allow to reinstall Vista back to what
it was when you first got the computer. :geek:

Really? Well lets see.

Google "Aioe" and you get the following as the first hit:

http://news.aioe.org/

Wow, that took 2 seconds and their home pages lists everything you
need to know on how to use their free service.

If you don't know what Aioe is searching for free news service
providers is equally quick.

I always giggle when some dope thinks their lord and master when all
they really did is do something very elementary. Sorry to deflate your
ego.

Re: Extending C: drive

Thanks Shawn your the best!
That is a much better solution than having to loose all of what Ive
unwittingly accumulated... :sarc:

Although there are days! I'd like to start anew, but after a bit of
thought,I know me full well and it wouldn't take any time at all to fill
everything back up with dumb stuff I dont really need.

I do photo restoration, I'm also a webmaster and have many different
applications that I need to do all this work.

Heres a real dah question - I know about getting more memory, Ive done
that and now run at 3GB. Is there a similar way to do so with disc
space? or do I need to purchase an entirely new drive.?
