Disappearing Desktop Icon

I am running Windows XP Home Edition with SP3. An icon for my online banking
website disappeared leaving me only the shortcut arrow. I have tried:
1. Dragging the icon for the website from the address bar - doesn't work.
2. Right-clicked on the shortcut, selected the Web Document tab, then
clicked on Change Icon and selected a new icon - clicked Apply and OK. The
icon selected appeared on the desktop as desired; however, it disappears
after I click on the icon and go to that website, then close the website.
How do I get an icon for that website other than just the shortcut arrow?

Try this long-hand method of creating a shortcut:
- Righ-click a blank area of the Desktop.
- Click New, then Shortcut
- Type this in the box:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" www.xxx.com
(You MUST type the double quotes. Replace xxx.com with the
correct address of your web site).
- Click Next, then give the baby a name.
- Click Finish.

I followed your instructions carefully. When I clicked Next, after typing in
the pathname, I got an error message .... File cannot be found.

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" the quotation
marks " are extremely important and must typed in.

iexplore.exe might be in a different location on your machine. Find out
where it is, then put it the correct path name!

Create a shortcut to your browser, then add the address, after a space,
to the path.
