when I run Windows update, I get the following:

Oh, and when I try to run the Update it tells me to "Get Microsoft Update
today" ... I already have that. The web page tells me Automatic updates is
running; however I have not seen an update in weeks so obviously something is
going wrong.

Yeesh, my reply didn't show up in the previous post...

no this did not help. I still get the same error happening after modifying
the registry as per instructions

The registry changes need to be exact. You can use this reg file to
ensure that they are:

See the post by Tarun. Reboot after merging the reg file and see if the
system can update.

If not, which firewall and antivirus/security software is being used ?

Its the mistyping of DLL name - should be W..lowercase"L"..N
thanks to all prior posts .. MS should clarify this
