Backup problem

I have been running the server backup on Windows Server 2008 for about 6
months. In the last 3 days, backup has failed with the error "Backup
ended before completing. Creation of the shared protection point timed out."

I googled it and found nothing. I have no idea what this error is, can
anyone shed some light?
